Turn on 2-Step Verification, create a Google App Password, then sign in with your Gmail address and that App Password — not your regular Gmail password. Softaken uses those credentials over IMAP to pull attachments. See the Gmail App Password guide if you need the steps.
2. Why does the software require a Google App Password instead of my regular Gmail password?
Google retired Less Secure Apps / basic password access for many third-party desktop tools. When 2-Step Verification is on, an App Password is the supported way to let this tool connect securely via IMAP without using your primary Gmail password.
3. Can I extract attachments based on specific file formats (such as .PDF, .XLSX, or .ZIP)?
Yes. You can pull all attachments or filter by type — including PDF, DOC, XLS/XLSX, JPG, PNG, ZIP, RAR, HTML, TXT, and other extensions shown in the export options.
4. Does the software allow filtering and downloading attachments based on email date ranges or file sizes?
