Quick Steps to Move from Outlook to Thunderbird
MS Outlook user and corporate professionals were using the same application for the past many years. The decision was well thought and was taken considering the benefits of the organization. The users are aware of the challenges that we face in migrating the data of Outlook to Thunderbird. Thankfully,we didn't lose any of our email data during the migration process. In this blog and sharing my data migration experience with the intent that it might help you as well.

Our technical team explored all the options available for data migration. We had two options. The first was the manual method to migrate data,and the second was the software method. Method 1:Manual Migration via Thunderbird Add-on
- Start Mozilla Thunderbird on the computer.
- Click the Menu icon and select Add-ons and Themes.
- Search for and install the ImportExportTools NGadd-on.
- Restart Thunderbird after installation.
- Right-click on Local Folders,choose ImportExportTools NG,and select Import MBOX file(once you have data converted to a standard mailbox format).

The users have already successfully set up your emails in Thunderbird on an old machine and want to move everything to a new computer,follow these steps:
- Close Mozilla Thunderbird on the old computer.
- Press Windows + R,type APPDATA,and hit Enter.
- Search for the Thunderbird folder.
- Copy the folder and paste it onto a USB drive.
- Connect the USB drive on the new computer.
- On the new computer,open the APPDATA/Roamingfolder via the same Windows run command.
- If a Thunderbird folder already exists there,delete it.
- Paste the Thunderbird folder from your USB drive into this Roaming directory.
- Launch Thunderbird on the new machine — all your accounts,structures,and moved data will be exactly as you left them.
Limitations of Manual Method
- It is a lengthy process
- It requires a lot of changes in the Thunderbird and Outlook Email application setting page which is not simple for a non-technical user.
